Lido | Bristol
The stunning Clifton Lido was reopened 16 years ago after a two year full restoration project with modern enhancements. Originally the Clifton Victoria Baths, it was opened in 1850 and changed hands many times before the doors were closed – apparently for the last time – in 1990. Completely neglected, it fell into a derelict state until Arne Ringner came along and purchased the property in 2006, with ambitious plans to re-open the pool with a spa and restaurant. You get some sense of the challenge undertaken if you take a look at these before-and-after photos. It was one of our most successful restoration projects, working alongside the delightful Marshall & Kendon Architects, involving some creative additions alongside the historic repair and restoration work.
