Civil Engineer (Drainage)

  • Job Types: Full-time, Permanent Position. Monday to Friday.

We are looking for an engineer with experience in drainage design, SuDS and flood risk assessments to work alongside one other Drainage Engineer. They will be involved in a variety of projects from small residential extensions to commercial developments from initial concepts, through planning to implementation. Our typical projects range from small jobs with contract values from £50,000 to £4,000,000. Satisfying sustainable drainage requirements and flood risk management are becoming essential considerations so it’s essential to have an understanding of obtaining statutory approvals and knowledge of local and national legislation.

Our ideal candidate will have a minimum of 4 years’ experience, however we will consider most levels of experience if the engineer is a good fit with our practice. They will be confident in producing drainage layouts, numerically literate and analytical and have an attention for detail while taking professional pride in the quality and delivery of their work. Time management and organisational skills are vital. Whilst not essential, it will be advantageous to a candidate to have experience with design and detail of schemes requiring technical approval of S38, S278.

Technical Expertise:

  • Undertaking investigations, site inspections, data collection and analysis, scheme design and development;
  • Experience in project involvement from RIBA Stage 2 through 5/6;
  • Proposing technical solutions in accordance with approved design procedures;
  • Strong communication skills and report writing skills;
  • Relevant civil engineering background (BEng, MEng, HNC, HND) or equivalent;
  • Knowledge of Sewers for Adoption/DCG, British Standards, Part H Building Regulations;
  • Experience of hydraulic modelling, Flow or Microdrainage is beneficial;
  • Understanding of the CDM Regulations;
  • Experience in technical software such as AutoCAD, Bluebeam as well as Microsoft Office suite.

Responsibilities:

  • Be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously and competently with minimal supervision;
  • Liaise with architects, clients, statutory authorities, design teams and contractors regularly and effectively.
  • Preparing fee proposals;
  • Deal with day-to-day queries from site promptly
  • Efficiently manage projects and client expectations;
  • Deliver compliant designs within budget and programme.

Structural Engineer

As a Structural Engineer you will take responsibility for your designs from start to finish. Excellent communication skills will be essential to establish relationships with the design team and clients. You will need to enjoy working in a busy time-pressured environment as part of a team or on your own initiative to meet multiple fixed deadlines on time and within budget.

Our ideal candidate will have experience working on small jobs with contract values ranging from £50,000 to £4,000,000. They will be confident in working with the main structural materials i.e. concrete, steel, masonry and timber, numerically literate and analytical and have an attention for detail while taking professional pride in the quality and delivery of their work. Time management and organisational skills are vital.

Structural Engineering:

  • Produce outline and detailed (as appropriate) structural scheme design for a wide variety of projects;
  • Carry out design and analysis of structural elements and frames in main structural materials to current Eurocodes or British Standards, for residential and commercial structures;
  • Produce or oversee clearly presented calculation reports for submission to Building Control for approval;
  • Produce or oversee the production of general arrangements, details and section drawings using AutoCAD;
  • Produce hand drawn schemes, typical details & sections;
  • Have a pragmatic approach to producing engineering solutions considering site constraints, the clients/architects brief, buildability, sustainability and using engineering judgement and experience.

Technical Expertise:

  • Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering, Chartered Engineer with MIstructE or MICE or working towards achieving Chartered status;
  • Knowledge of the Eurocodes and knowledge of the equivalent BS codes for the main structural materials;
  • Understanding of the CDM Regulations;
  • Competent in technical software such as TEDDS/Robot, AutoCAD/Revit and Bluebeam as well as Microsoft Office suite.

Project Management:

  • Be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously and competently with supervision;
  • Liaise with architects, clients, statutory authorities, design teams and contractors regularly and effectively.
  • Deal with day-to-day queries from site promptly and represent us at design and site meetings.
  • Efficiently manage projects and client expectations;
  • Regularly monitor project budgets.

Graduate

  • Competitive Salary D.O.E
  • Job Types: Full-time, Permanent Position. Monday to Friday.

You will work alongside a team of 11 structural engineers, producing structural drawings and calculations for projects varying from domestic scale to large commercial buildings. Ideally you will be familiar in working with the main structural materials i.e. concrete, steel, masonry and timber, numerically literate and analytical and have an attention for detail while taking professional pride in the quality and delivery of their work. Time management and organisational skills are vital.

You will be supported by highly experienced engineers and will be encouraged towards a role taking responsibility for the quality and consistency of engineering designs for the practice.

Structural Engineering:

  • Preparing and drafting Engineering designs with the opportunity to assist with key decision making throughout projects;
  • Carry out design and analysis of structural elements and frames in main structural materials to current Eurocodes or British Standards, for residential and commercial structures;
  • Produce clearly presented calculation reports for submission to Building Control for approval;
  • Produce general arrangement, detail and section drawings using AutoCAD;
  • Produce hand drawn schemes, typical details & sections;
  • Have a pragmatic approach to producing engineering solutions considering site constraints, the clients/architects brief, buildability, sustainability and using engineering judgement and knowledge.

Technical Expertise:

  • Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering;
  • Awareness of the Eurocodes and awareness of the equivalent BS codes for the main structural materials;
  • Exhibit knowledge and understanding of reinforcement detailing and scheduling;
  • Awareness of the CDM Regulations;
  • Be familiar with technical software such as TEDDS/Robot, AutoCAD
  • Competent in Microsoft Office suite.
